The Big Smalls

Now more than ever - it is so important to shop small, and support smaller business’. I was absolutely delighted over the lockdown period to receive such gorgeous, thoughtful, handcrafted gifts from family and friends - the kindness and consideration oozing from both gift giver, and the designer maker. I in turn, chose my own gifts with this in mind, and just thought that I would share some of my absolute faves with you.

These talented folks were found in a variety of different ways; via Instagram wormholes, Etsy searches, and recommendations from friends. There are a whole host of gifted individuals out there, just waiting to help add that special personal touch when thinking of gift ideas. That is unless, you would just like something extra special and gorgeous for yourself!

Susi Raymakers

I found Susi whilst flicking aimlessly through my Instagram stories one morning, her work shook me out of my zombie like state, and stopped me in my tracks! Another wonderful Interior account that I follow – @gold_is_a_neutral (ran by Jess Hurrell) was promoting her beautiful chevron greeting cards, which are full of fun and lots and lots of colour. Her love of pattern and letters shine through her work, and these exciting cards could be displayed as prints within your interior all year round due to their well thought out design. Olor

Ok so I’m a bit of a candle freak… and even that may be an understatement. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let me introduce you to Olor – a magnifiSCENT (get it) candle company. Founded by Louise and Jonathan, a couple whose passion for scent was ignited by a trip that they took together to Barcelona. As luck would have it, I had the opportunity to chat with Jonathan at one of their pop up store’s over the festive period, where he explained that he and his partner became enamoured with the scent that hit them as they walked into their hotel lobby, greeting them fondly after a full day of exploring the city. Ideas of their own dreamy scents were then formulated as a result. This really spoke to me, as myself and my fiancé got engaged in Barcelona, on our second trip back there after also falling in love with the place. The name ‘Olor’ means ‘scent’ in Catalan, and all branding design and packaging is designed by Louise, which is also stunning.

After learning their backstory, I then proceeded to smell all of the wonderful scents that they had on offer. It was a hard choice, but after many minutes of sniffing, I opted for the Rosa & Oud candle as a present for my Stepmum. This gift very nearly didn’t leave my house, as I was tempted to keep it for myself… I went on to order two more from their website to rectify this.

Olor also offer candles that can be personalised, should you wish to leave a message on your gift. To shop from their website, click here.

Palm & Wild

Palm & Wild was founded in 2020, during the pandemic – an unprecedented time for us all, and for some (including myself) it was a time for reevaluation, a moment to ask ourselves ‘what truly makes me happy?’. For founder Hayley Woon, lockdown was the perfect time to focus on doing what she loves, and in her own words, she ‘turned what was a time of uncertainty and despair into an opportunity to launch her own passion project.’ Well, all I can say is thank goodness she did! Her beautiful prints are inspired by nature, and exude a tropical feel – brightening any mood, and space within your interior. Hayley has designed her prints to work well alone, or as a collection when paired with your scheme.

Perfect as a gift for a new homeowner, or to accessorise your own home! Browse Hayley’s prints here.

Shelf Studio

So unique, so bold – so beautiful! Sam and Sofia founded Shelf Studio in 2020, after considering
the different ways in which they could propagate plants, and expand their green family to the max. As a budding plant enthusiast myself, I often find myself looking into all nooks and cranny’s at the house, to see if I could raise a potential plant baby there. Now I’ve found the solution; if there isn’t space… then MAKE space!

Shelf studio offer nine distinctive shelf designs, primarily made to display plants – but that’s not to stop you from adorning it with objects and trinkets of your choice! Each design has a selection of different colours and finishes, allowing you to match them carefully with your colour scheme. Personally, I myself have my eye on the Wave Light, which is pictured above – I love how this shelf has been designed with an opal light fixture, making it functional as well as decorative.
